How to Get Rid of Acne Fast




What is Acne

Acne is a skin conditions that also goes by the medical name vulgaris. Acne is actually a disease of the skin where the oil glands become clogged. Acne is not a dangerous condition but is unattractive. If a person does not treat acne correctly it can lead to scarring. Acne often starts during the teen years when the body sees an increase in hormones which lead to the secretion of oil. Adults and people in late adulthood can still experience acne.


Under the skin people have pores that are connected to the follicles. Follicles are similar to small canal ways that are under the skin. The glands surrounding the follicles produce oil known as Sebum. These follicles are supposed to carry the dead skin cells from under the skin to the surface of the skin where they can be brushed away. When these follicles are blocked by hair or too much oily buildup or bacteria acne forms since the oil cannot leave the skin. This causes the skin to swell and the pimples to form. Pimples are commonly seen on the face, back, chest, shoulders, and neck. They can also form in other places on the body as well.

Types of Acne


There are different types of acne. Whiteheads trap bacteria under the skin. Blackheads look like black dots on the surface of the skin. It is not trapped dirt but a buildup of oil. Papules are the small bumps found on the surface of the skin. Pustules are filled with puss and look red or white. Nodules are large pimples and are often painful. They form within the deeper layers of the skin. Cysts are painful and filled with puss. This can lead to scars. While acne is not dangerous people often visit a dermatologist to find out ways to unclog their pores and gets rid of their acne problems.

What Causes Acne

Acne is a relevant problem that will affect each person at one point in time or another. The first thing to do is to understand what causes acne. Besides the increase of hormones from puberty, there are other factors that cause acne. The three main causes are the overproduction of oil, shedding of dead skin cells, which irritate the hair follicles of the skin, and a buildup of bacteria. Essentially, when hair follicles, or pores, get clogged with oil and dead skin cells, it causes a build up in the pore, forming acne. The oil, also known as sebum, travels along the hair shaft and out through the openings of the hair follicle naturally. Normally, this oil will be excreted when you sweat, but when your body produces an excess amount of oil and dead skin cells, they plug the opening to the pore, causing a build up. Other causes of acne are hormones and your diet, as will be discussed later. 

These build ups can cause different kinds of acne. First, there is the whitehead. As the name implies, a whitehead is a blocked pore with a white appearance. The whitehead is a small bump typically. Then there is the blackhead, which is a small blocked pore that stays open, causes the top to turn blackish, after these two come papules. Pores can become so irritated from the oil and bacteria that the wall breaks, causing a bigger pimple. Papules are hard to the touch and will often appear in clumps. Finally, there are larger pimples called cysts. A cyst forms when a blocked pore becomes extremely irritated, causing it get bigger and go deeper into the skin. Cysts are typically painful and will contain pus.

Foods that Cause Acne

As was mentioned earlier, the food that you eat can contribute to your acne. So, it might be helpful to know the types of foods that cause acne to occur. While there is no direct proof that these foods cause acne directly, but there it can be noticed that the more of these foods you intake, the more acne appears. Go easy on the sugars. Sugar causes a trigger in boosting insulin, and excess levels of insulin can cause a boost in hormones. As oil is what makes up acne, avoiding oily food is preferable. Studies have hypothesized that chocolate alone is a large source for acne in several people, especially women.

Now that you know what kind of foods to avoid, perhaps it would be best to know what types of food you should consume to help prevent acne in the future. Start by taking in more fruits and vegetables. Increasing the amount of produce you put into your body helps increase the amount of nutrients your body and skin, specifically, need to function properly. The more of these nutrients you take in, the better you skin can excrete the oils so they don’t build up. Drink lot of water. Staying hydrated allows your skin the ability to breathe and properly replenishes the skin so you don’t have the excess dead skin cells that cause acne. Omega-3 Fatty Acids may sound bad for you, but they actually help control the production of a molecule that has been shown to increase creation of oil in the skin and therefore causing less acne.

Daily Routine to Prevent Acne

Now that you have all of this information, it can be helpful to know how to take care of your skin on a daily basis to help treat and prevent acne. Start by going to the drugstore and picking out a daily facial cleanser. It may take a few tries to find the right cleanser for you, but after you find it, use it once or twice daily. Be sure to drink at least six glasses of water daily, to keep hydrated, as was mentioned earlier. Avoid touching your face. The oils that collect on your fingers will only add to the issue that is causing the acne. Finally, if acne is present on your face, leave it alone. Picking at it or trying to pop it can cause even more acne to arise and leave damage to the skin.
